Advancing Education Effectiveness: Interconnecting School Mental Health and School-Wide PBIS, Volume 2: An Implementation Guide

Session Description: The Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF) promotes mental health for all students by enhancing and expanding Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Key features of ISF include effective and efficient family-school-community teaming, coaching, data-based decision making, evidence-based practices, and ongoing progress monitoring. ISF provides systematic steps for building capacity to identify problems and intervene early and effectively. The traditional hand off to a community mental health practitioner common in most school districts today, can often delay or discourage further treatment due to stigma, transportation, insurance, or other barriers. Other traditional approaches to school mental health result in mental health practitioners providing services without feedback to the school or systems to monitor progress and outcomes. Through an online training and coaching 4-part professional learning series, MTSS/PBIS coach and leads will become content fluent and use the installation process to guide district and school teams through an interconnected approach.
